CLINTON:  The people of New Hampshire know better than anyone America is in trouble; our people are really hurting.  In the 80s the rich got richer, the middle class declined, poverty exploded, politicians in Washington raised their pay and pointed fingers, but no one took responsibility.

It's time we had a president who cares, who takes responsibility, who has a plan for change.  I'm Bill Clinton and I believe you deserve more than 30-second ads and vague promises.  That's why I've offered a comprehensive plan to get our economy moving again, to take care of our own people and regain our economic leadership.

It starts with a tax cut for the middle class and asks the rich to pay their fair share again.  It includes national health insurance, a major investment in education, training for our workers, tough trade laws, and no more tax breaks for corporations to move our jobs overseas.

In eleven years as Governor, I've never had a pay raise and as President, I'll veto pay raises in Washington until middle class incomes are going up again.

CLINTON:  I recently met Ron Machos, Jr.  His family lost its health insurance when his old company failed and his 2-year old son had open heart surgery, and now he can't find any job with enough health insurance for his family.  There's something wrong with a government that can't open its heart to help a father care for a young child whose heart is already broken.

I'm Bill Clinton.  That's why I've offered a plan to get our economy moving again and to make sure every American has quality, affordable health care.  Together let's put government back on the side of the forgotten middle class.

CLINTON:  Evelyn Jaburek made payments on this home for 22 years.  But she lost her job and fell $900 behind.  And after $120,000 in payments, the bank foreclosed.

I'm Bill Clinton.  My plan for America has an economic lifeline so people like Evelyn won't lose their homes and their health care if they lose their jobs.  If we can forgive $7 billion in debt for Egypt, surely we can help our neighbors here at home.  Together let's put government back on the side of the forgotten middle class.

NARRATOR:  This is the story of a young man born in a small town called Hope -- Hope, Arkansas.  The son of a widow who taught him that anything was possible with hard work, faith, and determination.  This is the real story of Bill Clinton.

He worked his way through Georgetown and Yale Law School, became a Rhodes scholar, and then set out to make a difference for others.  In one of the poorest states in our country and against all odds made progress.  First he tackled the schools -- standards, accountability, smaller class sizes, and now the highest graduation rate in the region.  Built the economy -- one of the highest growth rates in new jobs of any state in the nation; manufacturing jobs created at ten times the national rate.  It isn't a miracle, it's just progress -- and a bit of hope.

CLINTON:  I've had a wonderful time campaigning in New Hampshire, meeting you and answering your questions.  But as soon as the polls showed that people were responding to my message, you began to hear a lot of negative information from tabloids, Republicans, pundits and my opponents. 

I think it's time you heard from me directly.  On Thursday and Friday night, I'm taking a half an hour of time on WMUR to answer your questions.  I hope you'll ask about the future of our country and what we've done in Arkansas; how we created manufacturing jobs at ten times the national rate; how we improved our schools so that Time magazine cited us as one of two states showing the most improvement in the 80s.

I'm the only candidate in either party who's worked for more than a decade to do what we need a President for now: to create jobs, improve education, provide health care, change government radically to do more with less.

CLINTON:  I got into politics to change people's lives for the better.  And for eleven years that's what I've worked to do.  For better jobs, for better education, for health care, to solve social problems, to bring people together.  That's what we need to do in America today: put our own house in order, restore the middle class, reduce poverty, organize this country to compete and win again.

I've got a fine national economic strategy, but in the end a plan is still a piece of paper.  To change lives you need vision and leadership and action.  That's the work of my life, and that's why I'm running for president.

The Concord Monitor this week said there's one candidate with the experience, leadership, confidence and savvy...Bill Clinton.

The Portsmouth Herald endorsement calls him an incredibly bright new thinker...a five-term governor...with a focus on the middle class.

The Monitor says he has the best chance to defeat George Bush.  Clinton has been tested in ways the other candidates haven't and he's shown his mettle.  He'd be a powerful candidate who offers a new generation of leadership.
