· Served as mayor of Irvine, 1982-84 and 1986-90; including winning the first direct election of mayor in 1988.
· Elected to the Irvine City Council, Mar. 7, 1978 and served three four-year terms to July 1990; lost 1990 re-election bid.
· Author of The Cancer Connection: And What We Can Do About It (Jan. 1977).
· Chief legal counsel to the California State Senate Health & Welfare Committee.

B.S. in history and economics from UC Berkeley, 1966; J.D. from Harvard Law School, 1969.

FAMILY:
Married Phyllis Friedman in 1966; one son.
