· Defeated in the Nov. 16, 1991 Louisiana governor's run-off contest against former Gov. Edwin Edwards (D) by a margin of 61% to 39%.
· Lost 1990 bid to unseat Sen. J. Bennett Johnston (D), obtaining about 44% of the vote in the Oct. 6, 1990 blanket primary.
· Elected as a Republican state Representative for Metairie (New Orleans suburb) in 1989, defeating John Treen; served from Feb. 1989 to Jan. 1992.
· Announced candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination in June 1987; switched to the Populist Party in March 1988 and was the party's nominee for president, on the ballot in 11 states.
· Founded National Association for the Advancement of White People, 1981.
· Candidate for Louisiana state Senate, 1975 and 1979.
· Founded Louisiana-based Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in 1974, served as Grand Wizard; left the Klan in 1980.
