CURRENT:
Governor of Virginia since Jan. 1990.

CAREER:
· Elected Governor of Virginia in 1989, defeating Marshall Coleman (R) by 50.2% to
49.8%.  Wilder became the first African-American elected governor of a U.S. state.
· Elected Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 1985 and served four-year term.
· Elected to the Virginia Senate from Richmond in 1969 special election, and re-elected in 1971, 1975, 1979 and 1983.
· Founder and partner of the law firm Wilder, Gregory and Martin, 1959-1990.

MILITARY:
Served in the U.S. Navy, 1952-53, served in Korea and awarded the Bronze Star.

EDUCATION:
B.S. in chemistry from Virginia Union University, 1951; J.D. from Howard University School of Law, 1959.

FAMILY:

Married Eunice Montgomery in 1958, divorced in 1978; three children.

AGE:
62 years, 0.1 month old on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 1993.
Born Jan. 17, 1931 in Richmond, VA, grandson of slaves.
